27 May Expect another bumper 2026 Gun Run in the Mother City

The 2026 OUTsurance Gun Run is set to bring another bumper weekend of road running to Cape Town on September 12 and 13.
Hosted by Atlantic Athletic Club (AAC) in partnership with the Animal Welfare Society SA, the popular event will feature a21.1km half marathon, 10km road race, 17km trail run and a 5km fun run and pet walk.
The races will start at various points around Mouille Point and Green Point before finishing at the Green Point Common, with the scenic coastal routes expected to attract thousands of runners and walkers.
Saturday’s programme includes the 5km Fun Run and Pet Walk, the 17km Trail Run and the 10km race. The headline 21.1km half marathon takes centre stage on Sunday, September 13, starting at 06:30 on Fritz Sonnenberg Road.
Atlantic Athletic Club race organiser Lynn Davis said the event has become an institution on the WPA Road Running Calendar and continues to grow in popularity.
“The OUTsurance Gun Run is far more than a race. It is a celebration of community, fitness and Cape Town’s running culture. ,” said Davis.
“We are proud to create an event where competitive athletes, social runners, walkers and families can all feel part of something special.”
Davis added that the partnership with Animal Welfare Society SA has helped make the Pet Walk one of the highlights of the weekend.
“The pet walk has become one of the most loved parts of the event. It creates a fantastic atmosphere while also supporting an important cause,” she said.
Entries for the event will open soon, with race pack collections scheduled for Friday, September 11 from 10:00 to 18:00 and again on Saturday, September 12.
Runners taking part in the 21.1km and 10km events will require ASA licences, while temporary licences will be available for unlicensed athletes.
The Gun Run has become one of Cape Town’s flagship running weekends, blending fast racing, community spirit and some of the city’s most iconic scenery into a festival of road running.
