Olympic javelin thrower Rocco van Rooyen of the Bellville Athletics Club considers it a great honor to lead a formidable Western Province Athletics (WPA) team to the ASA National Championships.

The event will take place this weekend at the Tuks Stadium in Pretoria.

“It is a great honor to be chosen as captain of the WPA team. I will definitely do my best to lead by example and inspire as much as possible,” a proud Van Rooyen said on Tuesday.

“I believe that if you did the hard work, the results will be a true reflection of that. I can assure you that every WPA team member has put in the hard work and deserves to participate in the ASA National Championships. ”

According to Van Rooyen, the WPA athletes always put everything on the line to do WPA proud.

“I am confident that every member of the team will pour out their heart and soul on the track. I believe this is just the beginning of the growth of the WPA team. I predict that the team will definitely become a force in the near future,” he added.

In addition to Van Rooyen, the WP team consists of many talented young athletes who will want to make their mark amongst the best in the country.

Van Rooyen’s teammate Antonio Alkana’s goal will definitely be to successfully defend his SA title in the 110m hurdles.
