Celebrate Youth Day with the WPA Youth Challenge

Western Province Athletics (WPA) are undertaking a unique initiative for the Western Cape, by hosting a WPA 5km and 3km Youth Challenge for school kids Grade 1 to Grade 12 to celebrate Youth Day and Month on the 8th June 2019

The event will be a 3km run for children Grade 1 to Grade 7 and a 5km run for children Grade 8 to Grade 12. Youth of all cultures and backgrounds are invited to take part in this event.

WPA are targeting 2500 children of all cultures and backgrounds, with special emphasis being placed on those from underprivileged communities.

The objectives for the event are the following:

  • To celebrate Youth Day and Month
  • To build better and stronger relationships with schools in the Western Cape communities
  • To identify young, up and coming talent in the disadvantaged communities
  • To promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle

The event will take place on the 8th June 2019 at the Parow Athletics Track from 09:00 to 14:00.

This initiative falls in line with WPA’s values, as a non-profit making organisation responsible for the overall development of athletics within the Western Province contributing towards the development and transformation of our Society, through the Development of Athletics from Grassroots to the highest levels of Excellence..

WPA’s mission is to promote athletics as a sport with a view to the optimal development of the athletics potential residing within the Western Province. WPA aims to expand the athletics involvement, as a sport and recreational activity, to all areas and sectors of the population within the Western Province.
