Three of South Africa's world youth champions kept themselves in the hunt on Thursday for global junior titles, on Day 3 of the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.

High Jump sensation Breyton Poole, who stunned the field to take the world U18 crown in Nairobi last year, had no trouble in the qualifying round of the High Jump Men, sailing over the bar at 2.15m as he booked his place in Saturday's final.

Zeney van der Walt was impressive in her 400m Hurdles semi-final, coasting to victory in 56.72 seconds and progressing to the medal contest on Friday.

In the opening round of the 400m Hurdles Men, Sokwakhana “Soks” Zazini was equally impressive, winning his heat in 51.21, while Lourens Steenkamp was third in his race in 52.35.

Both athletes ensured their spots in the semi-finals, also to be held on Friday (today).
